Conversations With Purpose

As an internal communications pro, where do you go for inspiration, exploration and connection? As a former corporate communications professional on the client side, I often felt isolated. Having come from an external facing role in public policy, I was surprised by how much my corporate communications role was internal facing.

I began to wonder about the challenges that arise when we are so focused on our own internal stakeholders. It can be isolating, deplete creativity, and lead to complacency. Getting into a room with other communications pros at other companies was rare and when it did happen, there wasn’t much chance to discuss real topics. Communications professionals are some of the smartest and best at everything – from writing to managing relationships to tackling complex topics. And in MN it is a tight community; many of us know each other already.

As a consultant, I’ve been asked to share tips from working with our various clients. I often find that the topics are the same and so I thought – what if we all got together and started to share, discuss and grow together? What if there was a place for corporate communicators to connect with each other, to share their strategies for creating magic or mitigating crises?

These conversations have inspired us to start The Huddle – a unique venue for corporate communicators to gather and discuss the questions and challenges that are keeping us up at night. We will bring together curated topics and speakers that will help us all feel re-ignited with new ideas to put into practice.

Our first event will be Tuesday, January 28, from 3 to 5 p.m. We will be discussing innovation and challenges in internal communications. For example, how do you cut through the clutter with all the noise and channels available today? And, how do you say no so you can stay focused on your priorities? Our guest speakers are all amazing communicators that hail from Medtronic, Target, United HealthCare and Cargill. I am excited for this great line up to kick off our first event. I hope you can join us!

Please note, these are small-batch events – kept intentionally intimate so that we can really get to know each other and dive into topics that matter most to you. Please RSVP to madeline@pivotstrategiesconsutling.com to reserve your spot. The event is free and food and beverages will be provided by Pivot.
